Bullocks! Sorry to hear the news. You're full of grit and determination. Get well quick and proper.

Dude, some inspiration to give you some hope. Not sure if you are a football fan but here is a story of a comeback.

In 1997 Jerry rice tore his ACL and MCL in the first game of the season. His rehab was ridiculous and he sawed off that cast with a hacksaw after just 4 weeks.
He came back in week fourteen and made the game winning catch against the Broncos. On that play he cracked his patella on the kneecap. Another 14 weeks of rehab.

He came back better in 1998 with over 1000 yards receiving and 9 TD catches. You will do the same, since you have the same heart and determination as one of the greatest football players in history. Bring out that Jerry Rice in you and came back with a vengeance!

I feel for you man, wish you a speedy recovery. But, as a wise, er, well as some dude once said:

"You are going to have setbacks, period. Don’t let those stand in your way of your chosen goals within this sport or any other pursuit." - Gary Robbins

Dammit Gary, that was hard to watch. I can't even begin to imagine what that felt like, but I applaud you for sharing and giving us a glimpse into the world of a champion who truly pushes the limit.

Best of luck for a successful surgery and a speedier recovery!

Sorry to see that. I hope it heals fast and you can get back out soon, faster and stronger than before.

Great video though...

Gary that was painful to watch, I can't imagine the pain and frustration you're going through.
I believe you're surrounded now with people you love, and they will help you realize there are bigger things that are important in life beyond these setbacks. And they will give you some good books to read...

Very few people are willing to be as honest as you are Gary. Thank you for sharing. 100 things have to go right and only 1 has to go wrong.

Oh man, did you kick a black kitten while walking under a ladder, simultaneously breaking a mirror or what?

That just sucks.

Damn dude - that really sucks. I mean it really sucks. But somehow you still made this an entertaining post with the music selection, the video (what camera is that?) - and the not family safe language.

When you get through this - yeah, what Karl said.

I can only imagine how disappointed you are right now. I agree with others that you would rock endurance paddling ... maybe something to consider to pass the time until you can run again. Hoping the best for your recovery.

Bruce Grant said...

well phuckadoodle, Gary, that just blows and is supremely just not fair. I'm really sorry to hear about this. You succeed because you push boundaries, but it looks like the foot got pushed a bit too hard this time. Heal quickly, and stay positive.
It definitely wasn't worth the helicopter ride!

Gary, I really have to admire the fact that you were able to make a video about the whole ordeal... it just shows you'll be able to get through this with flying colours. Heal fast! Christine & Jay

Dude, that sucks donkey balls! Hope you get better very soon and I second the idea of getting into endurance paddling or something like that! You would be amazing at it.

Curb Ivanic said...

FUUCCKKKK!!!! That really, really suck. I feel for you bro. I don't have any words of wisdom but you know I'll be here to help you keep your strength up.

Leslie said...

Ooooh Noooes! So sorry, G.R!

Kristin said...

ahhh Gary. I'm so sorry man. Makes me sad to watch that as I can imagine all that is going through your head... the quote from you that Karl posted here is awesome. Sometimes following your own pearls of wisdom proves to be the toughest life challenge. I wish you the best and will keep thinking about ya!

Hi Gary,

I'm working on an article about ultrarunning, and need a run down of an ultrarunner's typical day of meals and training.

I know every ultrarunner is different, but would you mind shooting me an email with your typical day of eating and training.

I truly would appreciate it.

Oh Gary, seeing your second break, just broke my heart. Hugs from Cowtown and perhaps a little phosporous, calcium too.
